Mr. President,

We warmly welcome the presentation by the delegation of Bahrain.

  1. 2. We commend Bahrain for its efforts to promote and protect human rights since the last review in 2017 despite the challenges faced due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. We note with appreciation the adoption of the National Human Rights Plan (2022-2026), the establishment of the Ministry of Sustainable Development for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the signing of the Strategic Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development (2021-2022). We also appreciate its initiatives such as the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women and the National Committee for Childhood.
  1. 3. In the spirit of constructive cooperation, India recommends the following to Bahrain:
  1. i. Consider further strengthening the National Human Rights Institution, in compliance with the Paris Principles;
  1. ii. Continue with policy and legislative measures for promoting gender equality and combatting gender-based violence, including by ensuring access to safe reproductive health services; and,
  1. iii. Continue to support initiatives for developing children’s abilities and skills.
  1. 4. We wish the delegation of Bahrain all the success in its review.

Thank you, Mr. President.
