52nd session of Human Rights Council (27 February-4 April 2023) delivered by Ambassador Indra Mani Pandey, Permanent Representative of India, Geneva

13th February 2023

Mr. President,

I thank you for giving me the floor and providing very useful briefing on the next Session of the Council.

2. As we celebrate this year 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), India and South Africa have decided to co-pilot a Joint Statement, at the forthcoming session of the Council, on the resonance of thoughts and ideas of Mahatma Gandhi in the UDHR. We will soon jointly share the text with Members and Observers of the Council and we look forward to receiving their co-sponsorship.

3. Also, India and EU will co-present a joint statement, to be delivered at the annual high-level panel on human rights mainstreaming, on the theme A reflection on five years of UN Youth 2030: Mapping a blueprint for next steps on 27 February 2023.

4. I assure you, Mr. President, the full cooperation of my delegation during the upcoming 52nd Session of the Council. We will continue to act constructively and engage with various stakeholders, including Member and Observer States, OHCHR, other mechanisms of the Council and Civil Society Organizations.

I thank you, Mr. President.
