Thank you, Mr Vice-President,

We thank the Chair of the Working Group for presenting the report and take note of the conclusions and recommendations made in the Report.

  1. 2.The Government of India attaches highest importance to the rights of women and girls. The Constitution of India prohibits discrimination and secures equality and equal protection of law to all. India has adopted a multipronged strategy to eradicate deep rooted gender stereotypes that perpetuate discrimination against women and girls.

  2. 3.The participation of women in political and public life in India has been on a positive upward trend. With its legislative and schematic interventions, Government of India is aimed at further strengthening the political participation of women. The National Commission for Women undertakes promotional and educational research to ensure due representation of women and their participation in public lives.

  3. 4.The Government has been pursuing its agenda of inclusive development, keeping in mind the best interests of the children with strong support and partnership with state governments and other relevant organisations. India has laid down child rights as a lead indicator of national development at all levels of governance.
