Statement by India at adoption of draft report of the Working Group on Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Hungary at the 39th Session (1-12 November 2021), delivered by Ambassador Indra Mani Pandey, Permanent Representative of India [Geneva, 09 November 2021]

It is a great honour and privilege to present, on behalf of the troika, comprising Argentina, Armenia and India, the draft report of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Hungary, distributed under the reference A/HRC/WG.6/39/L.4.

During the interactive dialogue with Hungary, held on 2nd November 2021, ninety-nine delegations delivered their statements, and nine sent advance questions. As a result, Hungary has been presented with 285 recommendations.

Bhutan requested merging paragraphs 6.183 and 6.207 into a single paragraph that will read: “6.206 Continue its efforts in strengthening the legal framework for the protection of women against domestic violence and continue its efforts in addressing the wage gap between women and men (Bhutan)”.

In paragraph 6.51 there is an amendment to correct a name. It would read as follows: “6.51 Support the adoption of the Council of the European Union conclusions on the new European Union strategy on children's rights and ensure, at national level, that all textbooks and other teaching materials address sexual orientation and gender identity in an objective way, and promote tolerance and respect for LGBTI+ people (Luxembourg).”

The troika would like to thank the delegation of Hungary, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, H.E. Mr. Péter SZIJJÁRTÓ, as well as other delegations, for their constructive and active engagement in the process and preparation of this report.

We are pleased that 285 recommendations will be examined by Hungary and its response provided not later than forty-ninth session of the Human Rights Council.

The troika would also like to thank the Secretariat for its active support during the entire process.

With this in mind, the troika submits this report to the Working Group for adoption.
