Permanent Mission of India (Geneva, 09 July 2021)

Madam President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Nauru for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its 3rd Universal Periodic Review that was held on 2nd February, 2021.

2. It is noteworthy that the review witnessed substantive participation, with 55 delegations taking the floor and making a total of 156 recommendations.

3. India appreciates that as many as 132 recommendations have been accepted by Nauru, including 3 recommendations made by us. We also appreciate the constructive engagement by the delegation of Nauru during the review, a reflection of the strong commitment Nauru attaches to the UPR process.

4. India had noted with appreciation the efforts of Nauru to address the climate change issues, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular its adoption in 2020 of the Environmental Management and Climate Change Act.

5. We warmly congratulate Nauru for a successful review and wish it success in their efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.

Thank you, Madam President.
