Statement by India under Agenda Item 6: Adoption of UPR Outcomes of Saint Lucia at the 47th Session of the Human Rights Council (21 June – 15 July 2021) delivered by Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India (Geneva, 08 July 2021)

Madam President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Saint Lucia for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its 3rd Universal Periodic Review that was held on 20 January, 2021. 

2. It is noteworthy that the review witnessed substantive participation with 58 delegations taking the floor and making a total of 165 recommendations.

3. India appreciates that as many as 113 recommendations have been accepted by Saint Lucia, including 2 of our recommendations. India commends the progress made by Saint Lucia in the field of education, in particular the growing trend of greater enrolment among women and girls at the secondary and tertiary levels. India also notes the steps taken towards establishing a National Human Rights Institution.   

4. We warmly congratulate Saint Lucia for a successful review and wish them all the success in their efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.
