Madam President,

1. We thank the Special Rapporteur for the presentation of her report and take note of the themes identified by her as priorities for her mandate.

2. Our Prime Minister at the recent Outreach Summit of G-7 gave a call for “One Earth, One Health”,- drawing on India’s belief in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and driving home the message that no one is safe until everyone is safe. India’s ‘Whole of Government and Whole of Society’ approach to combatting covid pandemic, with participation of the Government, at all levels, civil society and industry, has helped achieve the desired results.

3. While we are focusing on vaccination against Covid-19, we should not neglect the routine immunization programs as well as non-communicable diseases.

Madam President,

4. To address health care holistically, to ensure equitable access to healthcare and to address the issue of out of pocket expenditure, Government of India has launched the Ayushman Bharat Scheme with its twin components of Health and Wellness Centres targeted to provide comprehensive primary health care; and Prime Minister National Health Protection Scheme to provide protection against catastrophic health expenditure to more than 100 million socially and economically weaker households in the country.

5. My government has also attached utmost importance to the sexual and reproductive health rights and the issues of sexual, gender-based violence and femicide. The Government has implemented several schemes to address maternal health and related issued like Reproductive, Maternal, New born, Child and Adolescent health (RMNCH+A), Jannai Suraksha Yojana (JSY), Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK), Pradhan Mantri Surkashit Matitva Abhiyan (PMSMA) which ensure that contraceptives, hygiene products, reach timely to reduce the challenges and concerns related to health for women and girls.

6. We have always stressed on the concept of wellness. The global celebration of 7th International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2021, focused on yoga for wellness. Yoga has been globally recognized as a holistic and integral science of life, encompassing all dimensions of our health and wellness, including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

I thank you Madam President.
