[Geneva, 8th October, 2021]

Madam President,

India has been in forefront of the struggles against colonialism and our own freedom movement had inspired similar movements in several other countries under colonial rule.

We believe that the Fourth Committee of the UNGA and more specifically the C-24 is the most appropriate forum for discussions of issues relating to decolonization. We believe that we should avoid duplication and should resist the temptation of bringing in the HRC, issues which are being dealt with elsewhere in the UN system.

However, in view of the importance we attach to the issue, we would support the resolution. Thank you, Madam President.
