Madam President,

 

 India warmly welcomes the delegation of Solomon Islands for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its Third Universal Periodic Review that was held on 10 May, 2021. 

 

2. It is noteworthy that the review witnessed substantive participation, with as many as 59 delegations taking the floor and making 160 recommendations.

 

3. We appreciate that 106 recommendations have been accepted by Solomon Islands, including one out of two recommendations made by India. We also appreciate the constructive engagement by the delegation of Solomon Islands during the review, a reflection of the strong commitment Solomon Islands attaches to the UPR process. 

 

4. We commend Solomon Islands’ efforts to promote and protect human rights since the second cycle of its Universal Periodic Review. We welcome the establishment of the Anti-Human Trafficking Advisory Committee and the enactment of the Whistleblowers Protection Act, 2018. We also note with appreciation the adoption of the National Health Strategic Plan, 2016-2020.

 

5. We warmly congratulate Solomon Islands for its successful review and wish it success in their efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.
