Madam President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Paraguay for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its 3rd Universal Periodic Review that was held on 05 May, 2021.

2. It is noteworthy that the review witnessed substantive participation, with as many as 79 delegations taking the floor and making 210 recommendations.

3. We appreciate that 204 recommendations have been accepted by Paraguay, including 3 recommendations made by India. We also appreciate the constructive engagement by the delegation of Paraguay during the review, a reflection of the strong commitment Paraguay attaches to the UPR process.

4. My delegation notes with appreciation Paraguay’s work in creation of the Sustainable Development Goals Commission, as well as a number of initiatives undertaken to contribute to the realization of the economic, social and cultural rights of the people in Paraguay.

5. We warmly congratulate Paraguay for its successful review and wish it success in their efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.

Thank you, Madam President.
