Statement by India under Agenda Item 6: Adoption of UPR Outcomes of Estonia at the 48th Session of the Human Rights Council (13 September– 08 October 2021) delivered by Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India (Geneva, 30 September 2021)
Madam President,
India warmly welcomes the delegation of Estonia for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its 3rd Universal Periodic Review that was held on 04 May, 2021.
2. It is noteworthy that the review witnessed substantive participation, with as many as 95 delegations taking the floor and making 274 recommendations.
3. We appreciate that 192 recommendations have been accepted by Estonia, including 2 recommendations made by India. We also appreciate the constructive engagement by the delegation of Estonia during the review, a reflection of the strong commitment Estonia attaches to the UPR process.
4. We took note with appreciation that the steps taken by Estonia in assigning the Chancellor of Justice to act as a national human rights institution duly accredited by GANHRI with ‘A’ status.
5. We warmly congratulate Estonia for its successful review and wish success in their efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.
