Statement by India under Agenda Item 6 : Adoption of UPR Outcomes of Armenia at the 45th Session of the Human Rights Council (14 September – 07 October 2020) delivered by Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India (Geneva, 28 September 2020)

Madam President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Armenia for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its Universal Periodic Review undertaken on 23rd January 2020.

2. The review saw participation and engagement with as many as 93 delegations taking the floor and making 246 recommendations. India notes that as many as 211 recommendations have been supported and accepted by Armenia including all 5 recommendations made by India. We appreciate the fact that Armenia has taken action since its review in January towards fulfilling some of the recommendations accepted by it. During the review, Armenia had informed that it had successfully drafted its new National Strategy for Human Rights Protection and its Action Plan with the full engagement and active participation of all stakeholders, government institutions, civil society and international partners. In our view, this is a significant development towards promotion and protection of human rights.

3. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Armenia for its successful review and wish it all success in its efforts in implementing its accepted recommendations.

Thank you, Madam President.
