Statement by India under Adoption of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Ethiopia in the 42nd Session of the Human Rights Council (09-27 September 2019), delivered by Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, (Geneva, 20 September 2019)

Mr. Vice President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Ethiopia for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its Universal Periodic Review undertaken on 14th May 2019.

2. The review saw participation and engagement with as many as 132 delegations taking the floor and making 327 recommendations. India notes that as many as 270 recommendations have been accepted by Ethiopia including recommendations made by India. India appreciates constructive engagement by Ethiopia during the review process.

3. India notes all consultations undertaken by an inter-ministerial team consisting of relevant government stakeholders under the coordination of the Federal Attorney General as well as outside the government institutions for the purpose of examining all recommendations. Ethiopia also presented a set of development strategies and policies that produced successful results.

4. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Ethiopia for its successful review and wish all the success in their efforts in implementing the accepted recommendations.
