Statement by India
Statement in Support of the Multilateral Trading System
India finds resonance with the words and sentiments expressed by Switzerland and 57 other Members in their Statement in support of the rules-based multilateral trading system.
2. We place great value on the WTO and the central and indispensable role of the institution within the rules-based multilateral trading system.
3. We believe also that the dispute settlement system of the WTO is a central element in providing security and predictability to the multilateral trading system and regret the withering away of the Appellate Body.
4. We reaffirm our support for all the pillars of the rules based multilateral trading system with the WTO of its centre. We believe that principles like non discrimination, decision by consensus and S&DT for all developing countries and LDCs and mandates need to be respected and supported by all.
5. We hope that at MC12, we will see the WTO multilateral negotiating system deliver outcomes which are balanced, development focussed and inclusive and by then we will also be able to see the resurrection of the AB.
