Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 34th Session (04-15 November 2019) : 3rd UPR of Bolivia - Interactive Dialogue, delivered by Ms. Mini Devi Kumam, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India [Geneva, 05 November 2019]

Mr. Vice President,

We welcome the delegation of Bolivia. At the outset, we appreciate Bolivia’s efforts in promoting the rights of peasants and other people working in rural areas in the Council.

2. We commend the progress made by Bolivia in reducing extreme poverty and unemployment rate, increasing coverage of access to drinking water and sanitation as well as in ensuring higher representation of women in the National Parliament. The Multisectoral Plan for Comprehensive Development and the Pluri-national Plan and promulgation of the Children and Adolescents Code are key steps to guarantee the rights of children and their comprehensive development.

3. We view that the General Plan for Economic and Social Development would promote comprehensive development in socio-economic sector and development of institutional mechanisms at all levels.

4. India recommends the following to Bolivia:

(a) Continue implementation of measures for reducing inequality, poverty and unemployment rates

(b) Strengthen further efforts in increasing drinking water and sanitation coverage in rural areas

(c) Continue improving welfare of the older persons and persons with disabilities

5. We wish the delegation of Bolivia all success.

Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
