Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Cambodia

Mr. President,

1.India warmly welcomes the delegation of Cambodia for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its Universal Periodic Review undertaken on 30th January 2019.

2.The review reflected participation and engagement by peer countries, with as many as 73 delegations taking the floor and making 198 recommendations. India appreciates constructive engagement by Cambodia during the review. India notes that as many as 173 recommendations have been accepted by Cambodia including all 4 recommendations made by India. India commends progress made by Cambodia in poverty reduction as well as in the primary and secondary education and ensuring high enrolment of girls in higher education. India appreciates various measures taken by Cambodia for promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. India also notes the steps taken towards establishing a National Human Rights Institution.

3.While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Cambodia for its successful review and wish it all success in its efforts in implementing its accepted recommendations.
