Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Cyprus

in the 41stSession of the Human Rights Council ( 24 June – 12 July 2019), delivered by Mr. Vimarsh Aryan, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, (Geneva, 05 July 2019)

Mr. President,

1.India warmly welcomes the delegation of Cyprus for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its Universal Periodic Review undertaken on 29th January 2019.

2. The review saw participation and engagement with as many as 82 delegations taking the floor and making 188 recommendations. India notes that as many as 163 recommendations have been accepted by Cyprus including 2 recommendations made by India. It is appreciative that Cyprus intends to act in accordance with the recommendations or that actions are already underway on the accepted recommendations and are currently being implemented. It is also noted that Cyprus partially accepts six of the recommendations involving the ratification of or accession to a number of treaties.

3. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Cyprus for its successful review and wish it all success in its efforts in implementing its accepted recommendations.

Thank you, Mr. President.
