Statement by India under Adoption of the Report of the Working
Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Dominican Republic
in the 41stSession of the Human Rights Council ( 24 June – 12 July 2019), delivered by Mr. Vimarsh Aryan, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, (Geneva, 05 July 2019)
Mr. President,
1.India warmly welcomes the delegation of Dominican Republic for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its Universal Periodic Review undertaken on 30th January 2019.
2. The review saw participation and engagement with as many as 66 delegations taking the floor and making 191 recommendations. India notes that as many as 127 recommendations have been accepted by Dominican Republic including 2 recommendations made by India. We appreciate Dominican Republic for its constant efforts to guarantee enjoyment of human rights for its citizens as well as its commitment to continue cooperation with human rights mechanisms. During the review we heard from the delegation of Dominican Republic about the details of progress made in political, economic, institutional and social terms particularly reduction in poverty levels in the Dominican Republic being one of the greatest in Latin American countries in recent years.
3. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Dominican Republic for its successful review and wish it all success in its efforts in implementing its accepted recommendations.
