Mr. President,

1.India warmly welcomes the delegation of Yemen for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its Universal Periodic Review undertaken on 23rd January 2019.

2. The review saw participation and engagement with as many as 88 delegations taking the floor and making 252 recommendations. India notes that as many as 182 recommendations have been accepted by Yemen including recommendations made by India. The delegation of Yemen highlighted the importance of human rights for peace, stability, liberty and India took note of the challenges that Yemen has been facing in bringing peace and development. Considering this, India appreciated the socio-economic development measures undertaken by Yemen towards poverty alleviation, improving basic education as well as access to healthcare among others and future commitment to fulfil all its obligations towards promotion and protection of human rights.

3. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Yemen for its successful review and wish it all success in its efforts in implementing its accepted recommendations.

Thank you, Mr. President.
