Statement by India on Adoption of the Report of the

Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Vietnam

in the 41stSession of the Human Rights Council ( 24 June – 12 July 2019),

delivered by Ms. Mini Devi Kumam, First Secretary,

Permanent Mission of India, (Geneva, 04 July 2019)

Mr. President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Vietnam for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its UPR undertaken on 25th January 2019.

2. The review saw participation and engagement with as many as 122 delegations taking the floor and making 291 recommendations. India notes that as many as 241 recommendations have been accepted by Vietnam including all 4 recommendations made by India. It is appreciative that many of the accepted recommendations will be realised by measures set out in Viet Nam’s National Action Plan for implementing Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and could be integrated in numerous respective policies, National Strategies and Target Programmes, including those on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, New Rural Development, Providing Care and Improving Public Health, Gender Equality etc. It is also welcome that the UPR process produced thoughtful and action-oriented recommendations related to poverty reduction, bridging inequalities and climate change adaptation for Vietnam.

3. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Vietnam for its successful review and wish it all success in its efforts in implementing the accepted recommendations.

Thank you, Mr. President.
