Statement by India

Mr. Vice President,

India welcomes the delegation of Cambodia.

2. India commends Cambodia on reducing poverty rate and on becoming a lower middle income country. Cambodia has been implementing mechanisms such as payment exemption policy, equity funding programmes, social security system which are key to poverty reduction and promote equity health care services. The national Policy Framework for Social Protection and the Health Strategic Plan are important steps to ensure that the people of Cambodia can avail qualitative, safe and effective health care system in all public and private health facilities.

3. The progress made by Cambodia in the primary and secondary education and ensuring high enrolment of girls in higher education are commendable. India appreciates various measures taken by Cambodia for promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. India also notes the steps taken towards establishing a National Human Rights Institution.

4. India recommends the following to Cambodia:

(a) Continue ongoing mechanisms for ensuring poverty reduction

(b) Continue ongoing measures to promote education for all

(c) Continue ongoing policies and programmes for ensuring quality health care for all

(d) Continue ongoing mechanisms for gender parity and women’s empowerment

5. We wish Cambodia every success in its future endeavours.
