Statement by India at the Organisational meeting of HRC for the 13th cycle of the Human Rights Council, delivered by Ambassador Rajiv K. Chander, Permanent Representative of India [3 December 2018, Geneva]

Mr. President.

My delegation congratulates you and members of the Bureau on your successful conduct of the HRC sessions in 2018. India supports the LMG statement delivered by China.

We also appreciate you and your team for the patience that you had shown in dealing with divergent stakeholders and the hard work that you had undertaken towards achieving a consensus on the efficiency measures in the functioning of the Council. My delegation congratulates you and your team on achieving this. Mr. President, we wish you every success in your future endeavours.

My delegation is happy that the PRST on enhancing efficiency of the Council enjoys broad consensus. India always believes that genuine dialogue and constructive cooperation is the only way to promote and protect human rights and will continue to adopt this approach for all human rights issues.

Thank you. Mr. President.
