Statement by India at the 71st World Health Assembly (21-26 May 2018) on Agenda Item: 12.6 on Maternal, infant and young child nutrition: Safeguarding against possible conflicts of interest in nutrition programmes

We thank the WHO Secretariat for A71/23 on safeguarding against possible conflicts of interest in nutrition programmes.
Having examined the contents of the document carefully, India acknowledges that successful management of conflict of interest is critical to engagement with non-state actors.
India supports the proposed tools for decision making for the prevention and management of conflict of interest in the policy development and implementation of nutrition programs including its six steps.
India proposes to participate in the country level pilot to be undertaken by the WHO Secretariat to test the applicability and practical value of the proposed decision making tools.
Accordingly, the possibility of developing national policies and procedures as per the national legal framework and country context can be explored.
