Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 29th Session (15-26 January 2018): 3rd UPR of Serbia – Interactive Dialogue, delivered by Ms. Mini Devi Kumam, Second Secretary, Permanent Mission of India. [Geneva, 24 January 2018]

Mr. President,

India thanks the delegation of Serbia for the presentation of its National Report.

2. We commend Serbia for the steps taken towards improving the status of women and promoting gender equality through the adoption of the National Strategy for Gender Equality 2016-2020 and its action plan. The high percentage of women’s representation in the parliament and local bodies is noteworthy.

3. We appreciate the enactment of laws for prevention of discrimination against persons with disabilities and implementation of the National Strategy on Ageing to benefit the elderly.

4. We welcome the adoption of the Action Plan for the Exercise of the Rights of National Minorities in March 2016 for greater participation of minorities in the government. The continued efforts of Serbia for social inclusion of Roma community through a new Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma are commendable.

5. We wish Serbia all success in its future endeavours.
