Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 30th Session (7-18 May 2018) : 3rd UPR of Cameroon – Interactive Dialogue, delivered by Ms. Mini Devi Kumam, Second Secretary. [Geneva, 16 May 2018]

Mr. Vice President,

1. India thanks the delegation of Cameroon for the presentation of its National Report.

2. We appreciate the steps taken by Cameroon for implementation of the recommendations from previous UPR cycles such as adoption and implementation of the National Action Plan (2015-19) for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights as well as strengthening the National Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms. India acknowledges the economic and security constraints that Cameroon faces in realization of human rights for its people.

3. We welcome the plans for combating poverty, vulnerability and exclusion such as the social safety net project, a second grass-roots poverty reduction sub-programme and other socio-economic measures for promoting right to work, health, education, food. We appreciate the multisectoral action plan of 2016 to implement the National Gender Policy Paper for combating discrimination against women and for promoting gender equality. We welcome implementation of the National Strategy to combat gender-based violence and the article 356 of the Penal Code.

4. We wish the delegation of Cameroon all success.
