Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 28th Session (6-17 November 2017) : 3rd UPR of Guatemala – Interactive Dialogue[Geneva, 8 November 2017]

Mr. President,

1. My delegation welcomes the delegation of Guatemala and thanks them for the presentation of their National Report.

2. India is aware of the developmental challenges and constraints faced by Guatemala in the promotion and protection of human rights.

3. We acknowledge Guatemala having submitted 11 periodic reports and 4 sets of replies to issues raised by UN Treaty Bodies, in line with its international commitments. We note with appreciation Guatemala’s implementation of the Zero Hunger Pact initiative, which was implemented in three phases.

4. India recommends that Guatemala actively work towards equal remuneration for men and women by taking credible steps. We also recommend that it takes specific measures to promote access to health-care services, especially in rural areas.

5. We encourage Guatemala to remain steady on the path towards promotion and protection of human rights in their country.

6. We wish them all success in this regard.

Thank you, Mr. President.
