Mr. Vice President,

1. My delegation thanks the delegation of Ghana for their National Report.

2. As a developing country, India fully understands the challenges and constraints faced by Ghana in promoting and protecting human rights. We acknowledge the multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral approach adopted by Ghana in addressing its challenges.

3. We recognize the positive institutional developments for gender equality with the adoption of the Gender Policy in 2015 and approval of the Affirmative Action Bill. India welcomes Ghana’s ratification of the three Optional Protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in December, 2016. We also acknowledge Ghana’s implementation of the Child Protection Compact Agreement (CPC) which will help in combating child trafficking in Ghana.

4. India recommends that Ghana expedite the ratification of the ILO Convention concerning Decent Work for Domestic Workers.

5. We also take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for Ghana’s commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights and encourage them to continue their efforts.  We wish them all success in this regard.

Thank you.
