Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 30th Session (7-18 May 2018) : 3rd UPR of  Colombia  – Interactive Dialogue,  delivered by Ambassador Rajiv K. Chander, Permanent Representative of India. [Geneva, 10 May 2018]

Mr. Vice President,

We welcome the delegation of Colombia and thank it for the presentation of its national report.

2. We appreciate Colombia taking steps to continue with the peace building process in the country and progressing with the development of a framework plan to implement the Peace Agreement. We believe this would ensure significant advancement of peace, security, protection of human rights and promoting equitable justice for all.

3. We welcome the adoption of the National Strategy to combat trafficking in persons and to guarantee the human rights of victims.

4. The considerable progress that Colombia has made to enhance participation of women in bringing improvements in their living conditions is noteworthy. We encourage Colombia to further strengthen the effective enforcement of its legal framework in protecting women’s rights and combating violence against social leaders, women and girls.

5. The measures initiated by Colombia to improve the living conditions of older persons under the National Policy on Ageing and Old Age are noteworthy. These measures are indicative of the Government’s commitment to achieve the basic needs and improve the quality of life of Colombians.

6. We wish Colombia all success in its endeavours.
