Mr. President,

India thanks UAE for the presentation of its National Report.

2. We commend the steadily increasing participation of women in political and decision making processes and in economic activities. We also note the adoption of the Rights of the Child Act in 2016 and the launch of the National Policy for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities last year.

3. The steps taken by UAE in combating human trafficking, including setting up of the human trafficking monitoring cell and the national committee on human trafficking are commendable.

4. The initiatives of UAE towards upholding the rights of contract/expatriate workers through a more transparent contract policy are noteworthy.

5. We recommend that UAE may consider establishing a National Human Rights Institution. We also recommend that UAE continues with implementation of the initiatives upholding the rights of expatriate/contract workers.

6. We wish UAE all success.

Thank you Mr. President.
