Statement by India

Mr. President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Singapore.

Mr. President,

2.         Singapore’s efforts at creating a fair and inclusive society amidst significant diversity are truly remarkable. In this regard we note with appreciation, the progressive new policies aimed towards enhancing social protection.

3.         It is phenomenal that 20% of Singapore’s national expenditure is on education with special focus on skills development and lifelong learning.

4.         We welcome Singapore’s ratification of CRPD in July 2013 and commend its national efforts at social integration of persons with disabilities. We note with appreciation the high representation of women in public life. Singapore has followed a holistic approach through inter-agency participation towards child protection. In this regard, we welcome the introduction of Family Justice Courts in 2014.

5.         We commend the recent legislative initiatives aimed at prevention of trafficking in persons and encourage Singapore to continue its cooperation with international law enforcement agencies in this regard.

6.         We welcome the steps taken to enhance inter-faith and inter-racial harmony including the setting up of the Harmony Fund in 2013.

7.         We wish the delegation of Singapore all success in its future endeavors.

Thank you Mr. President.
