Statement by India

 

Mr. President,

 

1. India warmly welcomes the delegation of Turkey for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Turkey.We thank the delegation for their comprehensive presentation, highlighting their position to the recommendations received during their second UPR review held on 27th January 2015.

 

2. We commend the government ofTurkey for the constructive manner in which it participated in the UPR mechanism. The review reflected the high participation ofpeer countries, with as many as 116 delegations making statements and 278 recommendations addressed to Turkey that cover a range of human rights both in the realm of promotion and protection.

 

3. It is encouraging to note that Turkey accepted as many as 215 of the recommendations including the recommendation made by our delegation.

 

4. India believes that Turkey has gained much from its participation in the UPR and will continue with its efforts to implement the recommendations accepted by it in the coming years. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Turkey for its successful review and wish it all success in implementing accepted recommendations
