Statement by India

 

Mr. President,

 

1. India warmly welcomes the delegation of Swedenand thanks them for the comprehensive presentation, highlighting their position to the recommendations received during their second UPR review held on 26th January 2015.

 

2. We appreciate the government ofSweden for the receptive, constructive and productive manner in which it participated in the UPR mechanism. The review showed the strong engagement of the peer countries, with as many as 89 delegations making statements and 208recommendations addressed to Sweden that cover a range of human rights issues.

 

3. It is encouraging to note that Sweden accepted as many as 154 of the recommendations including all the four recommendations made by our delegation.

 

4. India believes that Sweden has gained much from its participation in the UPR and will continue with its efforts to implement the recommendations accepted by it in the coming years. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Sweden for its successful review.
