Statement by India

Mr. President,

1. India warmly welcomes the delegation of Kyrgyzstan for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Kyrgyzstan held on 19thJanuary 2015. We thank the delegation for providing its response to recommendations as an addendum to the report and its statement.

 

2.We commend Kyrgyzstan for the receptive and constructive manner in which it participated in the UPR mechanism. The review reflected the intense participation and engagement by peer countries, with as many as 73 delegations taking the floor and 196 recommendations addressed to Kyrgyzstan which cover a range of human rights both in the realm of promotion and protection. It is encouraging to note that Kyrgyzstan accepted as many as 150 recommendations including the two made by India.

 

3.India believes that Kyrgyzstan has gained much from its participation in the UPR and will continue with its efforts to implement the recommendations accepted by it in the coming years. We warmly congratulate Kyrgyzstanfor its successful review and wish it all success in implementing accepted recommendations
