Mr. President,

1. India warmly welcomes the delegation of Mongolia led by H.E. Mr. TsogooUugangerel, Vice Minister of Justice of Mongolia and thanks the delegations for its presentation.

2. We appreciate the various legislative and policy measures undertaken on reforms in judiciary; to combat human trafficking; and towards achieving gender parity. We welcome the 2011 Law on Gender Equality and encourage the government to continue its efforts towards preventing and combating domestic violence through setting up of victim protection shelters, help-lines, and training of law enforcers.

3. While taking note of the National Food Security Programme (2009-16), we would request the delegation to share more details on the actual implementation of the programme. We would encourage the government to consider formulating a national poverty-reduction strategy.

4. The establishment of the Policy Council on Disabled Persons in 2012 and the Commission for Welfare of Disabled Children in 2013 are welcome developments. We encourage the government of Mongolia towards early adoption of the law on the rights of disabled persons. We understand that the drafting of this law is currently under process.

5. We encourage the government of Mongolia to continue its efforts towards improvement of human and institutional capacities of law enforcement organizations. We note with appreciation the opening of legal aid centres and request the delegation to share more information on the functioning of these centres. We commend the Mongolian government for the legislative measures on information transparency especially the Right to Receive Information that was implemented in 2011.

6. We also welcome the establishment of help-lines to assist children in distress and request the delegation to share their experience regarding the functioning of the helpline.

7. We wish the delegation all success in its future endeavors.

Thank you Mr. President.
