Mr. President,

1. India welcomes the delegation of Turkey.

2. We acknowledge Turkey’s commitment to human rights through its adoption of six Judicial Reform Packages and the Democratization Package. We also welcome the establishment of the Ombudsman Institution and the system of individual application to the Constitutional Court.

3. India welcomes the Government’s National Action Plan for Gender Equality and in this regard we encourage Turkey to take further steps towards enhanced participation of women in public and political life as well as their increase in the workforce.

4. We note with appreciation Government’s emphasis on inter-faith dialogue and encourage it to continue with its efforts to address discrimination against minorities. We recommend further efforts to curb discriminatory treatment of non-European refugees and asylum seekers.
