“VAIBHAV Fellowships”

Dear Sir/Ma’am,

On the National Science Day, Government of India launched a new fellowship scheme “VAIBHAV Fellowships” for Indian diaspora in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM).

  1. The VAIBHAV fellowship scheme is aimed at engaging Diaspora scientists to facilitate academic and research collaboration between Indian institutions and the best institutions in world. The scheme is designed to engage Diaspora for improvement of research ecosystem in India. It is open to NRIs/PIOs/OCI working abroad offering them adjunct/visiting faculty positions in Indian institutions/Universities.
  1. Missions & Posts are aware that the Vaishwik Bharatiya Vaigyanik (VAIBHAV) Summit was organised in October 2020by DRDO as a global summit of Overseas and Resident Indian scientists and academicians. The Summit witnessed participation of about 22,500 academicians and scientists from India and overseas. The summit also identified 18 verticals and 80 horizontals under a comprehensive roadmap to leveragethe expertise and knowledge of global Indian researchers for addressing emerging challenges for universal development.
  1. The leadership has directed government agencies to make more efforts to engage with the Diaspora scientists and academicians, and to leverage their association with the leading Universities/research institutions to establish research and academic collaboration with Indian institutions. DRDO has a database of more than 8000 scientists from 74 countries, and CSIR has also launched a portal Pravasi Bharatiya Academic and Scientific Sampark (PRABHASS) to help with exchange of ideas and exploring collaborations.
  1. The VAIBHAV fellowships have also been announced in line with the above-mentioned objectives, and as afollow up to the VAIBHAV Summit. The scheme details can be accessed at https://dst.gov.in/news/vaibhav-fellowships.Missions and Posts are requested to circulate the information about VAIBHAV Fellowships to Diaspora. This information must also be put up on website of the Mission/Post.
  1. Missions and Posts may kindly ensure optimal outreach with respect to the VAIBHAV fellowship among the Indian STEMM Diaspora within their jurisdiction. It must especially be ensured that leading diaspora scientists and researchers are aware of the new fellowship scheme. Any feedback from diaspora scientists on the fellowships may also kindlu be shared with the Ministry.
